November 21, 2012, Nancy Pelosi insisted, “I’m a devout Catholic and I honor my faith and love it . . . but they have this conscience thing that insists putting women at physical risk, although Catholic providers strongly disagree.”
On February 2, 2012, President Barack Obama pitched his “tax the wealthy” policy proposals to an audience at the Nation Prayer Breakfast. The President described himself as “extremely blessed” and said, “For me as a Christian, it [his tax the wealthy proposal] also coincides with Jesus’ teaching that for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.”
While politicians have used false prophet politics to make claims they are trying to walk in Christ’s footsteps before, it still makes my skin crawl because it’s like listening to the devil quote Scripture.
Setting The Record Straight
In the Beatitudes, Jesus taught the “blessed” were the poor in spirit, those who mourn, the meek, those who seek righteousness, the merciful, the clean of heart, the peacemakers, and those who are persecuted for righteousness sake. He taught there is no greater love than to give up one’s own life so that another may live and warns those who seek to harm children of severe consequences. Christ taught sexual abstinence outside of marriage and spoke out against fornication, adultery, and divorce, insisting that love, not sex, was the greatest virtue that mankind possesses.
According to these extremely basic Christian precepts, neither Nancy Pelosi nor Barack Obama are “extremely blessed“… at least not by God. They already have their reward. In fact, they are extremely wealthy and powerful politicians whose public actions betray their Christian claims for false prophet politics. They are not poor in spirit, meek, clean of heart, peacemakers, or merciful to those who oppose them politically. They do not seek God’s righteousness. Instead, they seek to persecute those who believe in God’s righteous and natural laws.
Catholic Christian would not purposefully engage in the promotion or encouragement of another to sin against the laws of God. A Christian would not address the issues of fornication, incest, or rape with abortion; a Christian would not remove the personal freedom of consenting adults to lead whatever personal life they choose but would never agree to approve legislation violating a religious Sacrament like marriage; a Christian would not demand or legislate charity, but instead, encourage people by examples of self-sacrifice as a witness to Christ.
The Tax Collector
The Biblical reference thrown around by President Obama is, of course, taken completely out of context. The parable he took the verse from is about Christians remaining vigilant and faithful servants of God. The lesson has nothing to do with fairness, taxes, or charity, it’s to teach people to not become lazy while waiting for the Lord’s return.
However, since Barack Obama insists on entwining Biblical Scripture with taxes, I thought prudent to point out that, in Jesus’ time, tax collectors were considered sinners and feared by the poor. They showed no mercy when, in the name of Rome, they would evict people from their homes, confiscate their property, seize the clothes off their backs, imprisoned, and even put people to death who did not pay their taxes. Aside from putting people to death, the Internal Revenue Service practices these methods of tax collection on the behalf of the United States Federal government.
Goodbye Conscience, Hello Premiums
Among the many problems presented by the Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act of 2009 is the requirement that insurance carriers offer birth control and charge no “out-of-pocket” expense to their clients. The problem should be obvious, birth control devices and medications are not produced free of charge. This will result in higher annual premiums as people no longer buy their own birth control because they are already required to buy insurance that already pays for it.
Even though most people are insured through their employer, their insurance and benefits are part of their pay package. People who have religious objections to using birth control themselves are still subject to paying for the birth control of others. While I applaud every religious organization that stood up against the attack on their religious institution’s freedoms, the fight is far from over. To protect the individual religious freedoms of their laity these same religious institutions, regardless of denomination and faith, need to support the religious freedom of their congregational members as well.
Fishing For Religion
Quite honestly, I do not know what religion Barack Obama or Nancy Pelosi practice but it is not Christian. Christ did not promote sin, He confronted it. Christ did not speak of fairness, he spoke of faith, hope, and charity. Christ did not encourage people to put their faith in a government but in God, the Father.
While I can understand Barack Obama’s confusion (considering his mentor was Jeremiah Wright), a cradle Catholic like Nancy Pelosi, has no excuse for her actions.
“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thorn bushes, or figs from thistles? Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. So by their fruits you will know them. Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord‘, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name? Did we not drive out demons in your name? Did we not do mighty deeds in your name? ‘Then I will declare to them solemnly, ‘I never knew you. Depart from me evildoers‘.“
No, Nancy, you are not a devout Catholic. The cries of the unborn you’ve helped murder and the women you’ve deceived will drown out the “mighty deeds” you’ve done in His Name. You have chosen to hoard money instead of storing treasure in heaven, you’ve chosen to engage in false prophet politics in lieu of the Truth, and you’ve sought power, not God.
Truly, you have your reward.
